Tenure: The conditions under which land or buildings are held or occupied.
Tenant: A person who rents property from a landlord.

Lease: A contractual agreement where one party (the tenant) rents property from another party (the landlord) for a specified period.
Land contract: A legal agreement in which the seller of a property provides financing to the buyer for the purchase of the property. Instead of the buyer obtaining a mortgage from a bank or other financial institution, the buyer makes payments directly to the seller.
Financial
Rent: The payment made by a tenant to a landlord for the use of property.
Security Deposit: A sum of money held in trust as a guarantee against potential damage or unpaid rent.
Mortgage: A loan used to purchase real estate, secured by the property itself.
Interest Rate: The proportion of a loan charged as interest to the borrower, typically expressed as an annual percentage.
Down Payment: An initial payment made when something is bought on credit.
Legal
Eviction: The legal process of removing a tenant from rental property.
Foreclosure: The legal process by which a lender takes control of a property, evicts the homeowner, and sells the home after the homeowner fails to make mortgage payments.
Housing Code: Local regulations that establish standards for the condition, maintenance, and occupancy of residential properties.
Zoning Laws: Regulations governing the use of land and buildings, determining what types of structures and activities are allowed in certain areas.
Types of housing
Apartment: A self-contained housing unit that occupies only part of a building.
Condominium (Condo): A building or complex of buildings containing a number of individually owned apartments or houses.
Single-Family Home: A detached residential structure designed to house a single family.
Townhouse: A multi-story house that is attached to similar houses by shared walls.
Duplex: A house divided into two separate residences, each with its own entrance.
Cooperative Housing (Co-op): A housing arrangement where residents own shares in the corporation that owns the building, rather than owning their individual units.
Conditions
Maintenance: The process of keeping a property in good condition through regular repairs and upkeep.
Repair: The process of fixing or restoring something that is broken or damaged.
Renovation: The process of improving a broken, damaged, or outdated structure, often involving major repairs and updates.
Utilities: Essential services provided to a home, including water, electricity, gas, and sewage.
Assistance
Subsidized Housing: Housing that receives financial assistance from the government to make it affordable for low-income residents.
Public Housing: Housing provided by the government to low-income families, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.
Section 8: A federal program that provides rental assistance to low-income families, the elderly, and disabled individuals, allowing them to afford housing in the private market.
Homeless Shelter: A place offering temporary accommodation and services for homeless individuals and families.
Community
Neighborhood: A distinct area within a larger city or town, often with its own unique character and community.
